Hola!
Wow the days are long but the weeks are short! I am loving it here but
it is definetly hard, especially on the Spanish part of things. The
food is good. Chicken and rice for lunch and dinner every day, eggs
for breakfast and then for the most part they always have another
option but literally every day haha. Oh and they always have this
huge basket of rolls! The icecream is delicious! I don’t know how
they make it but it taste WAY better than the US. Oh they also have
these chicken sandwiches sometimes with mayo and lettuce and onion…
FOR BREAKFAST! It kinda made me feel sick so I don’t eat it anymore
for breakfast and have the eggs.
One of the Elders from our district went home last Thursday due to
unworthiness and he was doing the right thing but it was sad to see
him go. It made me realize though that this is where I am supposed
be.
We went to the temple last week and we are going again today!! It was
amazing and we listened to everything with the headsets in english
because everything was in spanish but had to say everything in
spanish! But the spirit was so strong. I love the temple!
On Sunday we watched this amazing MTC devotional form Elder Bednar
form 2009 at the Provo MTC. Go look it up. Its amazing!!!
The teachers switched the companion ships up but only in class and
teaching so its confusing but they also put me as the main teacher for
our companionship so its going to be interesting but good but I still
don’t know a ton of Spanish but I know it will all work out. I am now
with the twins! Hna Bray and Hna Bray! Oh and Hna Richardson the one
with dark hair was the girl I was friends with on fb! And we ended up
being companions!
Sorry this is really scatterbrained but I love you all so much and
love hearing from you!
Love, Hna Smoot
THE MEMO ON WEARING PIANTS!
I am doing good. We basically stay in the CCM all week except Pday
when we go to the temple. so none of us are wearing pants. I didnt
even know the new policy was in my mission but we just heard it for like africa
and stuff. But thats cool! I will probably if I do I will wait till I
get to the field. My companions are great and the spanish is hard and
sometimes I feel like Im in last place but really everyone else just
has more years of spanish than me but I am learning slowly and I know
I will get it eventually. I love you so much! Oh apparently if you
google about this lady in slc who comes to peru frequently or on fb
about moms with missionaries in peru or something like that then you
can get the info. Idk but its kinda a bummer I left my pic album i
forgot to make haha!

Week 1 - May 18, 2016
Hola Familia and Amigos!
Wow it has been a crazy week but I am so grateful for the opportunity
to be here! Can I just say learning Spanish can be really hard
sometimes but it’s so fun to talk to the Latinos here at the CCM in
the little Spanish I know! The Hermanas are so cute because they are
learning a little English too so we teach each other. There is only
about 110 Missionaries here and about 20ish Americans. My Pday is on
Wednesday so that is when Ill be writing. I am having such an amazing
time and I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time. My district is
great and I am in a trio companionship with Hermana Richardson and
Hermana Bray who are so fun! There are so many rules for a mission
it’s hard to keep them all straight and we are learning and asking all
the time. We are teaching an investigator who is actually just our
teacher but it is all in Spanish so it can be a challenge when you
want to express what you want to say but cant because you don’t know
the language well. But I learned how to say I know the church is
true! Yo se que la inglesia es verdadera! Ally tried to teach me that
before but now I can finally do it! Anyways, traveling here went fine
and the group I traveled with is actually my district so it was fun to
all stay together.
When a new chapter in your life happens you go through stages of
adjustment. We all went through it and let me just say, Hermana
Moore, President Moores wife is truly an amazing lady. She is like a
mom to all of us and she brought us much comfort in stressful times.
Even though the CCM is a lot of work, I know that I will be bless for
it. I know this church is true and that the book of Mormon is true! I
am so excited for the adventures to come!
I love you all so much!
Love, Hermana Smoot
PS. There are no apostrafies on the peru keyboard (not that I can
figure out) so it’s all autocorrect or nothing. Haha
Oh and I can only take pictures on Pday so we are going to the temple
today!!!
